Euro 2024 organizers aim to make fan miles a signature feature of Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate and sustainability an important goal of the tournament.
1. UEFA Euro
The European Championship is one of the biggest events on the international football calendar, and 2024 will surely be no different. Hosted by Germany from 14 June-14 July, 51 matches featuring 51 matches between European teams will conclude with the final at Olympiastadion Berlin as Germany plays host.
In each qualifying group, the top two teams will advance directly to the finals; three additional slots will be filled through play-offs scheduled for March 2024 and comprised of twelve teams that have secured entry based on their performance and final standing in 2022/23 UEFA Nations League competition.
Italy are reigning World Cup champions after defeating England via penalty shootout last year in the final, and will likely repeat their success this summer’s tournament. France, led by superstar striker Kilian Mbappe, are expected to pose strong competition and are eager to avenge their loss against Spain at Qatar World Cup earlier in 2017.
2. EFL Play-Offs
The EFL Play-Offs provide one last opportunity for Championship clubs to gain promotion out of League 1. After regular season action concludes, two-legged playoff semifinals match third with fourth and fifth against sixth respectively; winners advance to Wembley for a winner-takes-all final with huge prize pools up for grabs!
This year’s tournament will take place in Germany, beginning with an opener at Munich’s Allianz Arena on June 14 and culminating in Berlin’s Olympiastadion for a grand final matchup on July 14. Twenty-three European teams will vie for glory, with Germany automatically qualifying through holding the highest ranking position.
Fans will have plenty of opportunities to cheer on their favourite teams from the comfort of their local stadium, or public viewing areas throughout towns and cities where huge crowds are expected to congregate. 3. Uefa European Championship
The UEFA European Championship, more commonly referred to as “the Euros or Uefa Cup”, is an international men’s football tournament organized annually by UEFA for member associations’ national teams and second only in prestige to FIFA World Cup.
Contrary to its World Cup counterpart, this final tournament features only 24 teams (instead of 32). If scores remain tied after normal play time has expired, extra-time and penalties may be employed to separate both teams before an eventual victor is decided upon.
Qualification takes place through a system of seeding which takes into account each team’s performance at both previous tournaments and at this World Cup, along with goal difference, home goals scored and away goals allowed. Winners from four groups progress to the knockout stage.
The 2024 Euro Games will take place across ten German cities, such as Berlin’s Olympiastadion and Dortmund’s Signal Iduna Park. Here’s our Euro 2024 guide with more information on each venue’s history and tourist attractions!
4. FIFA Women’s World Cup
This tournament will take place across nine host cities across Australia and New Zealand, with its final scheduled for Sydney’s 81,500-capacity Stadium Australia. This marks both countries co-hosting this event for the first time ever as well as women’s teams from both of the world confederations competing at this competition.
This year’s tournament includes 32 teams, led by three-time defending champions the United States and two-time winner Germany. Additionally, eight newcomers – two from South America – are making their tournament debut.
Gracenote sports data company currently favors the US to win with an 18% chance, though competition among countries such as Germany and England (11% each), Australia, and Spain both currently stands at 8%.
Fox Sports App and fuboTV (try it free!) allow for live game coverage. If neither service are available to you, NBC will broadcast all games live through linear television coverage and provide streaming MVPD coverage such as Hulu with Live TV and DIRECTV STREAM for additional coverage.
5. Club World Cup
This tournament will pit the champions league competition winners of each continent against one another to determine the ultimate club side in the world. Real Madrid have held onto this trophy four times running and hope to defend it once more in Morocco.
Clubs qualify by winning continental championships between 2021-2024; FIFA may award extra spots based on performance over that four-year period. It is unlikely that more than four teams from each confederation will participate, while host nation teams are guaranteed one spot at the tournament.
North American champions Seattle Sounders will compete as champions in the CONCACAF Champions League. Auckland City of New Zealand will serve as another Major League Soccer (MLS) representative while Brazilian club Flamengo and Egyptian club Wydad AC will represent Africa respectively.
