Magic Trees

Sponsor a Magic Tree

Make a real difference to the lives of Malawian farmers for just £10

Magic Tree

Magic Trees like the one above help farmers cope with the harsh climate

The weather in Malawi is predictable: 4 months of rain, and then 8 months where it’s very dry and hot. That’s why we’re planting lots of Magic Trees (Faidherbia albida). This native breed of tree helps farmers throughout the year.

The rainy season, every March, the trees come out in leaf. Throughout the long dry season they provide a big canopy that shades the soil from the burning sun.

At the start of the next rainy season, every December, the tree sheds its leaves. This means the sun and rain can reach the soil and nurture the crops. And the fallen leaves break down into natural fertiliser for the crops.

David James says: "It’s a wonderful natural companion for the farmer, so you can see why the locals call it the Magic Tree!"

We are helping farmers plant Magic Trees all over their land; it takes 40 per acre to provide good shade for the crops. For just £10, you can sponsor a young tree, which will be grown in our nursery and then planted out by young farmers to help them where they need it most.

Click the DONATE button below to sponsor a Magic Tree now, and we'll send you information about the farmer you have helped.
